eBay Launches Partner Network, Bad News For CJ?
eBay has announced it will be leaving Commission Junction to set up its own Partner Network. According to the announcement, the new system will have:
This must surely be a huge blow to Commission Junction. No offence to the people that work there, but I've never enjoyed using that interface one iota. It's always been slow, clunky and click intensive. I get loads of emails about non-relevant program launches and the payment system has always seemed less than clear (although they did send me an email for the first time with full VAT invoice recently which was helpful).
Despite all that, I think many affiliates would have been compelled to sign up to access eBay, and probably Argos too. The loss of eBay takes away one major reason to use Commission Junction at all.
- Easy global registration to multiple countries simultaneously
- New, targeted banners and rich media creatives
- New landing page optimization and geo-targeting capabilities
- More detailed reporting capabilities for eBay’s programs

Hi Rob,
As per today’s eBay global announcement, eBay will be transitioning their affiliate program to an in-house platform over the next 6 weeks. Whilst we are always disappointed to lose a client, we have enjoyed a very long and rewarding relationship with eBay but with the support of their technology and with their internal resources, they are at a stage where they feel they could migrate this program to be managed internally.
eBay and CJ have been working towards this for almost a year now and we are committed to ensuring that the transition is as smooth as possible for publishers. We are working ever more closely with eBay during this period so please reach out to eBay or CJ if you need support.
We look forward to maintaining our relationship with eBay through the multiple ValueClick businesses including our Mediaplex division who continues to work closely with eBay to develop bespoke technology solutions as well as continuing to work with eBay on programs that continue to work with Commission Junction.
As for your feedback re: the CJ platform, I would be keen to speak more with you about your experiences and what we can do to ensure it is easier to work with us.

Hi Rob,
I totally agree, CJ is very labour intensive. Just getting links, the whole merchant sign up process, the interface is awful and don't even get me started on product feeds. Plus the list of merchants, even when filtered into United Kingdom just seem to be a total jumble.
Affiliate Window are miles ahead and they would produce better results by looking at their interface and site structure in my opinion.
I would love to promote Argos more and have a good go at their entire feed, but it all just seems such a hassle with CJ.

Hi Alison - thanks for your comment.
To be honest, my problems with CJ are not unique to me - I've seen the same grievances aired many times elsewhere. The interface is just horrible to use and feels like hard work to get anything done. When competitor networks are able to produce better offerings, I'm afraid it just puts CJ in a bad light.
Thanks for stopping by though and taking the time to respond.
Hi Lee, thanks for the comment. We're in total agreement. CJ might have some decent merchants but it does just seem a hassle even looking at them.
