Can't Be Bothered

Yes, I know Christmas is the high point of an affiliate's year and I should be busy cashing in on the huge amount of online spending that's taking place and I am to a certain extent through work I have already done in preparation, but this month I've really been hit by "can't be bothered" syndrome.

I've updated sites here and there when I've seen offers worth promoting, and tinkered where needed, but on the whole my work rate has ground to a near halt. My days at the moment are consisting of waking up late, re-watching Spooks from the first episode, playing Mario Galaxy, elaborate lunches and meandering around the shops to get some Christmas present ideas.

I actually think this is one of the dangers of being a moderately successful affiliate. When you have sites in place that earn you a reasonable living, it's perhaps easy, for me at least, to think "oh well, that'll do" and just coast along, indulging in the laziness that my worker bee sites allow me.

I have been at the PC a fair bit but I just haven't actually done much work. Although that in itself raises a question - if I am at the PC, am I working? I find that the nature of the job is that actually whenever you surf the web, you are consuming information and the brain is whirring away looking for opportunities, angles or content ideas within that information. That may qualify as work - research and development? - but after a few hours it can be a bit mind numbing and leave you with a sense of having just wasted time and not achieved anything.

One of the reasons I can't be bothered is because I know I will be super busy next month. The new year is like a natural catalyst for renewed efforts and ideas, so I'm enjoying my laziness at the moment and storing ideas at the back of my mind ready for a big new effort in 2008 to take things up a level.

Really good post!

However, don't be too hard on yourself. Important for us affiliates to have some 'downtime' too; after all, most of us work far more hours than the average office worker.

Happy Christmas :-)

"if I am at the PC, am I working"

I know how you feel! I think it's the Christmas season that's the problem. We know they in a few weeks we can wind down and chill out.

I've been getting up earlier this week to see if that makes a difference but all that does is bring my working day forward a few hours.

Roll on Christmas!

Like you said, your successful. I bet you've put plenty of hours in over the years so enjoy the downtime.

I get like this sometime and I'm better not working than working as I'd only end up doing things wrong!

See it as recharging the batteries for the NY.

Happy Christmas!

I wouldnt worry! Live is for living not for working.

Also know exactly what you mean about "researching stuff" ...I can spend a few hours reading blogs and stuff and I do learn new stuff ..but afterwards I think, what the heck have I been doing today.

And now that blogger comments is supporting wordpress open-id I'll need to go and find out about that too!

Cheers

The most important part of this post is finding out how many stars you're up to on Mario Galaxy! December was made for this game (I'm on 112!)

Thanks for the comments guys :-)

Good point about downtime Nadeem. I feel like somewhere inbetween at the moment - not properly working and not properly relaxed.

I've been trying to get up earlier too Dave (as in before 10am) because I want to revert to normal sleeping patterns.

Cheers Gadget, yep, recharging for a big effort in the new year is my thinking.

John C - glad you know what I mean. I get the "What have I been doing feeling?" most days now lol.

Duncan - I'm not going to embarrass myself but telling you know how many stars I have but suffice to say I'm a long way behind you and didn't even know there was 112 stars to get. I even had to consult a walkthrough on youtube yesterday before I could finish a level. Jeeze, must be getting old. ;-)
