Gumtree Affiliate

I was just perusing Commision Junction merchants and spotted Gumtree.

Gumtree is a cool classified listings site, a bit like a British Craigslist. Starting off as a London site, it now has all kinds of free and paids ads from around the UK. They were bought up by eBay a while ago so they've become a major player in the classified listings game.

They're offering a pretty decent commission structure:

Earn *£3.00 - £5.00 per paid job ad posting* and £0.30-£0.50 per free ads postings on Gumtree sites other than London

I'm just signing up and will - if I get approved - be putting ads for them on some of my websites. The website is really good, and since they're paying for free listings, you can make money by getting people to do what they would probably do gladly anyway - just as long as they go through you link.

This is a bit like the Firefox referrals I mentioned before. Firefox is a great product and people are searching for it every day and downloading it. The fact you can get paid for guiding them towards the download link they were looking for is a real boon!

Online Marketing Book

I was just having a little looksy at Amazon to see what new books there which might of interest to an Internet marketing type person.

I found this: "Online Marketing: Online Media Planning, Pay Per Click Search Marketing, Organic Search Engine Optimization, Email Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Rich Media and Banner Advertising, Viral Marketing, Social Networks and Analytics" by Ravi Damani, Chetan Damani, Dana Farbo, Jane Linton.

Yikes! What a title!! I've heard, of course, of keywork stuffing in web pages - but now book titles?? Have you seen any other example of new media tecniques encroaching on old media outlets? What next - metatags in newspapers??

Anyway, no idea if the book is any good. Sounds interesting so will probably order a copy and post up a review later.

Amazon to launch Adsense Clone

An interesting posting over at Chris Beasley's Website Revenue Strategies blog at Sitepoint.

He says he was asked by Amazon to beta test a new contextual advertising service they are going to launch, which would basically be very similar to Adsense. It wouldn't just be to advertise Amazon products but would actually be a vehicle for 3rd party advertisers - just like Adsense.

I love Adsense to bits, but competition is a wonderful thing, so I can't wait to hear more about this when it launches.

Ticketmaster Affiliate Programme

I stumbled upon Ticketmaster's affiliate programme and thought I'd share the details for anyone else who hasn't seen it yet.

Basically Ticketmaster is an online retailer of tickets for events, concerts, theatre and the arts etc. They are offering 25p for every ticket sold, and say that the average transaction consists of 2.5 tickets being sold.

So with a commission of 62.5p on an average order, you would need to be generating quite a sales to be making a noticeable income, but they have some nice tools and this could well nicely complement the right kind of site, maybe a fan site or site centered around a particular event.
